It\'s OK slip inn Floral beautification of Tetbury used to be done by the town council and was mainly carpet bedding. In 2005, the year her husband became mayor, Sue, along with several others, was invited to form a new Tetbury in Bloom team. Since then, the contribution from the council for plants has been £1,000 a year and their garden staff has been reduced to three, who do all the hedge and grass cutting. This must be a big saving, as the labour force used to be five. Sue says it costs £6,000 a year to run the volunteer scheme and that, in addition to doing all the work, her team raises the extra money needed, from fund-raising and plant sales. They divide plants from their stock for a sale once a year and also organise an open garden day in the town. With what they raise, they might buy an electric pump to help with watering or tools that are needed as well as plants – they spend £500 a year on bulbs.
